In order to ensure that Local Academy instructors are receiving all of the tools that are needed to support a successful program. We ask that all Local Academy trainees agree to the following terms:
Prior to Training
- take a technology pretest (using the CCNA Community Server)
- take a pedagogy pretest (using the CCNA Community Server)
- download curriculum (using the CCNA Community Server)
- read curriculum
- take all relevant exams on assessment server
During Training
- actively participate in trainer's presentations
- demonstrate use of best teaching practices and use of effective presentation techniques
- pass written finals for each semester of training
- pass skills-based assessments
After Training
- keep an electronic portfolio of student projects
- participate in the online community
Training Schedule:
Cisco Certified Networking Academy (CCNA) "Networking Boot-Camp" training for High Technology H.S. Local Academies will be held on the campus of High Tech H.S. starting July 17th, 2000. Each semester of curriculum training will be held on week-days only from 8:00 am until 3 pm.
New Local Academies must attend the Semester 1 and 2 block of training, and Existing Local Academies must attend the Semester 3 and 4 block of training.
There are no make-up training dates scheduled at this time for the Summer of 2000.
For New Local Academies:
Semester 1 CCNA Curriculum 7/17/00 - 7/24/00 (Monday - Monday) 8:00 am - 3:00 pm 6 Days Semester 2 CCNA Curriculum 7/25/00 - 8/1/00 (Tuesday - Tuesday) 8:00 am - 3:00 pm 6 Days For Existing Local Academies, that have already taught Semester 1 & 2 to their Students:
Semester 3 CCNA Curriculum 8/2/00 - 8/7/00 (Wednesday - Monday) 8:00 am - 3:00 pm 4 Days Semester 4 CCNA Curriculum 8/8/00 - 8/11/00 (Tuesday - Friday) 8:00 am - 3:00 pm 4 Days Training will be held in the room 110 computer networking lab using Macintosh desktop computers running Netscape Navigator under Mac OS 9.0. If you would like to bring a laptop to work on the material during the evenings, or during the day, you will need one with the following features:
- A Macintosh or Windows machine capable of running Netscape Navigator version 3.0 or higher that is Java script-enabled and has QuickTime and Macromedia Shockwave plug-ins (all of which are available free on the Web)
- 600 x 800 (SVGA) display
- Audio capable with headphone jack (please bring your own headphones)
Chris Widmer, Regional Coordinator of the HTHS Cisco Networking Academy will conduct the training. Each Local Academy may send two instructors to this training program. When selecting your faculty for this course, please keep in mind that this is a highly technical curriculum, when possible, Local Academies should send the instructors who will be actually be teaching the Cisco curriculum at their school.
