The two images above show (1) the hand-held remote and (2) the USB transmitter which will (MAY) be used for the presentations on Wednesday (5/23). The transmitter goes in the USB port and the remote is used by the presenter to advance slides. Larger versions are available by clicking on the images. This device should NOT be used unless you have tested it out beforehand!!

The laptop that will be used and the remote setup will be available for testing starting on Monday afternoon.

Strong Suggestion: Begin to incorporate speaker notes IN your presentation file! (Each team member should do this).

If you are using Firefox for your browsing, I would suggest downloading the Video DownloadHelper addon. It will allow you to easily download the .flv files from the ning.

You can install it on the school computers, if it's not already there.

Then you could use a service like zamzar to convert the file to a format that will work for your video editor. (.mov works great for iMovie)

Also, try: http://www4.online-convert.com/ , ADVANTAGE: No email needed.

Server Structure

I printed color copies of the pamphlets for Ms. Sargent yesterday. This caused me to look at the folder structure that you have created on the server. Some of you need to clean this up immediately. Some of you will lose points on the pamphlet, because the file was not in the correct location.

BUT, most importantly, right now, you must make sure your lastnameweb structure is correct as you complete the web assignment.

Please look at the recent diagram I included on the back of an assignment and check the 3.Web assignment to verify that you are creating the proper structure.

Web Project Update

The Due Date has been adjusted!!

When the shell is complete you should be looking for pictures to include on your site. Remember to keep it legal. ALL PICTURES must be saved in the pictures folder which must be inside the lastnameweb folder. The pictures must be saved BEFORE you attempt to place them on your web pages. Remember the instruction to leave spaces out of filenames.

As you go back and add detail to each page that you have created, remember to KISS and remember the design details we discussed. Keep readability foremost in your mind.

Final Version Due: Friday, March 30, end of class.

Midterm Project UPDATE

Microsoft Word

Image via Wikipedia

The Due Date has been adjusted!

Midterm Project:Real World Application of MS Word

Ideally: Find someone in the real world who needs your help to create some products using Microsoft Word. This could be anyone in or out of school: present or former teacher, pastor, rabbi, family member or family friend, local business owner - anyone. Meet and discuss with them what their needs are and decide what product(s) you will create to fill that need.

Alternative: In the event that you cannot find a real world situation to work in, after making a serious attempt to arrange one, you will need to create a task that mimics such a situation.

In either case: Describe this process (including whether your project is real world or alternative) and the product(s) you will need to create in your 1 page proposal. Be sure to refer to the rubric as you complete the proposal: Midterm Project Rubric.

Both paper and digital versions of the final products must be submitted. On the server, create a new folder called: Midterm Project.  Save all files, including your proposal document with any necessary updates/corrections, with appropriate file names in this folder. Be sure to refer to the rubric as you complete the project.

In class, you will need to print and submit EVERYTHING,  including your proposal document with any necessary updates/corrections. Place all of the separate components (Proposal, products, reflection; stapled appropriately) in a folder (if you have a spare manilla or pocketed folder, use that; otherwise make one like the one you used to submit the final pamphlet document.)

Note: The Reflection is the most important part of the project (40 points); follow the rubric closely to earn the most points.  Create a variation of your letterhead to use on the Proposal document and the Reflection document.

Midterm Project Due: Thursday, March 29. 2:25 PM.

Midterm Project Due: Friday, March 30. 2:25 PM.

Proposal: 10 Points

Products: 50 Points

Reflection: 40 Points

Notebooks: An Interesting Discussion

Notebooks

Image by Wm Jas via Flickr

Recently, a student asked me about some issues concerning handing in the notebook, so I thought I'd recap the highlights here:

Hello. Since, you told me earlier today that I would lose points for turning my notebook in because I got it wet before, I am rewriting my notebook. I was wondering if we are allowed to type our notebooks because I type faster than i write and if my notebook ever gets ruined again or lost, I can just reprint it.

Typing the notebook is a great idea. You can easily include screenshots to add detail!

If we are allowed to type it, do we have to use Microsoft Word 2008 or could it be some other word processing application?

2008 is not important; what are you considering using? Any version of Word can save in multiple formats.

Also, are we restricted to anything else like font size or face? Third, if we type it, do you want us to print it out, hole punch it, and put in a binder or use some other way to give it to you?

This is the best thing to do.

You are not required to re-write or digitize your notes, it is mentioned as an option which may offer multiple benefits.
BUT, if you do either of these things, it must be done by you and only you.

New Notebook Collection Date: Thursday, March 29!

Section 3 will need to drop off notebooks in Room 110 at 11:30, before your trip.

Presentations

The posted schedule says that Section 3 presents on Monday and Section 4 presents on Tuesday.  Your web page must be completed by the end of Tuesday, so the bulk of the final work will need to be done during the double period work day.

Our original plan called for notebook collection to be on Tuesday; we will be announcing an adjustment to that plan.
