9 students represented HTHS at the 25th annual Andrushkiw math competition at Seton Hall University on Saturday, November 20th. The team finished 2nd overall (only ONE point behind the first place team) and claimed 2 of the 5 individual awards (Kevin Zhou, 4th and David Wong, 2nd). Congratulations.

Also, The Princeton University Mathematics Competition, PUMaC, was held on the same day. PUMaC is a mathematics competition that takes place at Princeton University and which has now gone international with about 70 teams attending, including at least six from China and one from Bulgaria. HTHS student Eric Schneider's team came in 1st place at the competition, and Eric won the 1st place individual finals award as the top scoring individual in the whole contest. Within the math and math competition community, this is a huge honor and an incredible accomplishment. Way to go Eric !!!

Want to see construction pics? Head to the new gallery here and follow along as we move through the stages. Cool stuff !!!

I wanted to take a moment to thank those individuals who put in countless hours over the course of the last two months to put together such a fun-filled and successful evening last Saturday evening. Despite the extreme weather conditions, we were certainly being watched over as we maintained power and even saw the conditions subside somewhat during the travel period.

The generosity of so many of the tournament participants, most of whom aren't even directly connected to our school community, was inspiring. Most of the 50/50 winnings were donated BACK to the PFA. We made a lot of new friends that night and look forward already to the SECOND annual tournament in 2011. I don't know how much was ultimately raised, but being the first event of its kind in my eight years, I have to say it succeeded beyond expectations.

This event would not have been possible without the efforts of the following individuals (hoping I didn't miss anyone):

Bruno & Rachelle Lucarelli
Kathy Woolston
Donna Takash
Bill Wood
Dianne Thompson
Kim Dalton
... and all the dessert contributors

Thank you all for your dedication and commitment to our school, our community, and our STUDENTS !!!

School is closed on Friday, February 26th. An updated calendar will be introduced in the near future, which includes a revision to the end of the 3rd marking period. Have a safe weekend.

Stay safe and warm.

Students will need to have a signed consent form on file or in hand in order to be eligible. These are the blue forms that were mailed out earlier this year. The consent form is available for download here.

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Finley, our School Nurse.
