In case you missed today's front page article in the Asbury Park Press (like I almost did) ...

"Academies are a Hot Ticket"

As outlined in the most recent letter sent home (with progress reports), all parent/teacher conferences must be scheduled by calling Mrs. Ferullo at 732-842-8444 (voicemail ext. 402). Please indicate which teachers you are hoping to see. Mrs. Ferullo will do her best to schedule your conferences close together, but several factors may affect that outcome. She will call to confirm your final schedule and you will be handed a schedule with times and room locations as you enter Thursday evening. If you have any questions or concerns about the process, feel free to express them to me via e-mail.

Info Session # 1

Not sure that I have ever witnessed a crowd like this before, but we handed out 200 applications this morning (and that's with BTHS having a session at the same time). I sincerely hope that this was an anomaly and not an indication of what's to come, but we had around 450 people in the building this morning between all the rotations. We expected a large crowd, but this? Wow.

Thanks to all the student volunteers and faculty for their ability to adapt to the size of the crowd and manage to do an amazing job despite the size of the crowd. Thanks also to PFA for providing the refreshments and to Joe Byrnes for having everything set up and going with the flow as needs became known.

Great job everyone. Now on to #2 ...

Jane and Norman Lemonde's niece, and Ryan's cousin Jennifeer Free Espinal is a 2004 graduate of Wall High School who was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in July 2008. Jen is no stranger to cancer, having lost both of her parents to the disease by the age of 16. She now lives with her husband Tony who is in active duty for the United States Army. Jen and Tony were living in Alaska but are now back in NJ while Jen is being treated at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in NYC.

Not only has Tony taken a leave from his job to take care of Jen, but they were unable to get out of their lease in Alaska and have left most of their belongings there while they still pay rent. Currently, they're also renting a car for the commute to NYC. We hope to offset Jen's living costs while she begins her first round of treatment.

On October 5th, the Wall Fire Company No. 1 will be holding a fundraiser for Jen at the 18th Avenue firehouse from 1-4 p.m. Please come for food, drinks and entertainment to help Jen's battle against cancer. Donations will be accepted at the door.
