We live in an age where jobs require knowledge of basic math applications and the ability to use and analyze information. Workers of the future will need to possess the ability to set up problems, use a variety of techniques to attempt solving those problems, and work with others towards a solution. We live in an era where individual responsibility, self-esteem, goal-setting, sociability, and self-management are also part of the formula to a successful future.
This course will provide reality-based instruction resulting in student acquisition of basic math skills and critical thinking skills such as problem solving, goal-setting, and individual responsibility.
The learning environment will provide various experiences for acquiring proficiencies and New Jersery State Standards within these competencies. Material will be presented through a combination of problem sets, tasks and activities, lecture and group discussion, computer assisted activities, team problem solving, and individualized self-paced assignments.
Since a new form of literacy is being required of our young people this course will incorporate the use of technology, and training will be provided to ensure that all our students will have an equal opportunity to succeed.
