Troubleshooting: How to clear your Java Cache

Clearing the Java Cache ensures that the browser loads the latest versions of Java applications and applets (such as PowerTeacher Gradebook).
These steps will clear the Java cache for all installed browsers. Some of the dialog boxes and field names will be slightly different depending on your version of Java or operating system.

Here's the clean-out routine for Mac OS X:

1. Navigate to the Java Preferences on your hard drive: your-hard-drive-name --> Applications --> Utilities --> Java Preferences.app and double click to launch Java Preferences.app
2. Click on the Network tab.
3. Click the Delete Files button.
4. Check the boxes to Delete both Applications & Applets, and Trace & Log Files.
5. Click OK.
6. Close the Java Preferences window, and try accessing your PowerTeacher Gradebook again.

On some Macs, Java Preferences may be located inside a Java folder.
your-hard-drive-name --> Applications --> Utilities --> Java --> J2SE 5.0 --> Java Preferences.app

Here's the clean-out routine for Windows:

If your version of Sun Java is 1.5 and above, follow these instructions:

1. Click Start > Control Panel.
2. Double-click the Java icon in the control panel. The Java Control Panel appears.
3. Click Settings under Temporary Internet Files. The Temporary Files Settings dialog box appears.
4. Click Delete Files. The Delete Temporary Files dialog box appears. There are three options on this window to clear the cache:
• Delete Files
• View Applications
• View Applets
5. Click OK on Delete Temporary Files window.
Note: This deletes all the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the cache.
6. Click OK on Temporary Files Settings window, and try accessing your PowerTeacher Gradebook again.
Note: If you want to delete a specific application and applet from the cache, click on View Application and View Applet options respectively.

If you have an older version of Java, follow these steps:

1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel
2, Click the Java Plugin icon
3, Click the Cache tab
4. Click the Clear button and click OK to confirm
Note: Please repeat this procedure for each "Java Plugin" button in your Control Panel.
