On October 10, 2026, students from HTHS competed at IEEE's Region 1 Micromouse Championships, held at Montclair State University. Micromouse is an engineering competition in which students design and program autonomous robots to navigate a maze. Two of the three teams were recognized by the organizing committee for their superior performance, with each student receiving a $500 academic grant!
Team 1 won the High School Championship and the Most Innovative Design Award. This team consisted of Talin Sharma, Ashwin Kolli-Johnson, and Jerry Huang.
Team 2 placed second in the High School Championship after another impressive performance. This team consisted of Morireoluwa Alao, Nia Khardzeishvili, Sean DeMeulemeester, Addison Vincelli, and Diana Hong.
The teams worked extremely hard to prepare for this competition. This recognition is especially meaningful because the competition traditionally attracts strong collegiate teams, often featuring their schools' top engineering students. Both teams performed exceptionally well against the college competition, with Team 1 even outperforming the highest-performing college robot.
