Congratulations to Communications High School junior Sophia Chubatyy, whose photograph of Deep Cut Gardens was selected for the back cover of the 2026 Monmouth County Travel Guide.
Taken during an Intermediate Photo class trip, Sophia’s image captures the beauty of the gardens and renovated multi-use space through a thoughtful and creative perspective.
We also congratulate Mr. Gary Gellman of @GellmanImages, a longtime CHS industry partner, whose work was featured on the front cover of the guide. Thank you for your continued mentorship and support of our students.
We are proud to see MCVSD student talent recognized in such a meaningful way.

Congratulations to MAST Envirothon Team #1 for an outstanding performance at the 2026 New Jersey Envirothon competition.
Juniors Kyra Pepe and Jack Primiani, along with sophomores Dalila Ardolino, Leila Brown and Arabella Prince, earned first place in the Team Presentation category — the first time in MAST and MCVSD history that a team has won this category. The team also placed 10th overall in the statewide competition.
This year’s presentation focused on non-point source pollution (pollution that doesn’t original from a singular source) and explored ways stakeholders throughout the Barnegat Bay community can work together to address the issue.
This achievement reflects the students’ hard work, collaboration and dedication. Congratulations to all involved!

Caitlin Venezia, ‘09
From FFA Leader to Turf Educator:
A Career Center Success Story

Caitlin came to the Career Center as a student in the Landscaping program in 2006. Inspired by her teacher, Mr. Martin, she set out to one day be the same kind of mentor for her own students. Through hands-on experience in turf maintenance, nursery landscaping, equipment operation, and plant identification—along with strengthening her public speaking and leadership skills through FFA—Caitlin built the foundation for her career. Today, she has come full circle as the Career Center’s Turf Teacher, guiding students in grass identification, turf pest management, equipment safety, and golf course maintenance. Now standing at the front of the classroom, Caitlin is planting the same seeds of knowledge and inspiration that once helped her grow.

Jake Laird, ‘23
From Applied Mechanical Engineering to NASA Research

Jake Laird, a graduate of the Applied Mechanical Engineering (AME) program, is engineering beyond Earth. As a member of the 12th cohort of the New Jersey Space Grant Consortium, Jake is designing an Autonomous Dust Removal System for solar panels used on future lunar and Martian missions, replacing human-dependent cleaning with an automated, servo-motor–driven system powered by an open-source electronics platform. He will present his prototype to a panel of NASA judges in April 2026.

Since graduating from MCVSD, Jake has also been selected as an NSF S-STEM Scholar, where mentoring supported his growth as President of the Brookdale Engineering Club and led to his participation in the S-STEM Scholars Conference in San Diego. Jake recently returned to MCVSD to speak with current AME students and share his journey.

For many, Sept. 11, 2001, is etched in memory. For today’s students, it is history they are just beginning to understand. MAST social studies teacher Ms. Jessica Cappadona and her students were featured in NBC 4 New York’s “Making It Personal” during their visit to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.

A news reporter in a suit speaks in front of the Marine Academy of Science and Technology at Sandy Hook, part of the Monmouth County Vocational School District. A sign with the school’s name and compass logo is visible beside him. On-screen text reads “Educating Students About 9/11” as part of a News 4 New York segment.
A 98% graduation readiness rate on the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment exam across MCVSD’s six Career Academies tells a clear story: students are being equipped with the skills and support they need to finish strong and be prepared for the next chapter.
