Thank you for your interest in the Monmouth County Vocational School District's (MCVSD) Practical Nursing Program. To aid in the application process and answer your questions, this information letter has been formulated. Please keep this information for future reference.

  • You must be a high school graduate or have a GED to enter the MCVSD's Practical Nursing Program.
  • Completely fill out the application to take the entrance test.
  • When we receive your application it could take 3-4 months to receive your scheduled date to take the entrance test.
  • We have an open enrollment policy therefore; it is difficult to determine when you would start class. At this time there is approximately six-months to one (1) year wait for entrance into the Practical Nursing Program.

Entrance Test – (Qualifying Test)

If you are interested in attending the Practical Nursing Program the first step is to take and pass the entrance test (qualifying test). Complete and return the application to MCVSD at the above address.

You will receive a notification letter with an assigned date and location. You must return the bottom portion of the letter to verify your attendance to the testing session along with a $40 (non-refundable) check or money order payable to MCVSD for the test fee. This will guarantee your spot for the test. There will be a $35 bank fee charged for any returned checks.

Please bring two (2) forms of identification; one must have a photo of the applicant. Plan to arrive at least fifteen (15) minutes prior to the scheduled testing session. No one will be seated after the test begins. Please bring two #2 pencils to the testing session.

Applications and entrance testing will be offered throughout the year. If you do not pass the test the first time, you may take the entire entrance test a second time for a fee of $55.00. Applicants may only take the entrance test two (2) times in one year. Students will be accepted into the Practical Nursing Program by date of file completion and passing the entrance test.

To Prepare for the Test

The test has four parts: Reading, Math Computation, Applied Math, and English. Each part has a multiple-choice timed test. Paper for performing the calculations will be provided. Calculators are not permitted. To prepare for the entrance test we suggest using a GED or SAT review book. You can purchase a study guide and practice exams by contacting Assessment Technologies Institute, LLC at: www.atitesting.com. Look for the Test of Essential Academic Skills (ATI-TEAS)

After you Pass the Entrance Test

When you pass the entrance test, you will receive a Registration Form to the Practical Nursing Program. You must complete the Registration Form and return it with a non-refundable registration fee of $100.00 to the Practical Nursing office, 105 Neptune Blvd Neptune, NJ 07753. Please send a check or money order, cash will not be accepted.

High School Transcript or GED is required to enter the Practical Nursing Program

When you register for the Practical Nursing Program and your $100.00 registration fee is accepted you must have an OFFICIAL High School transcript or GED passing scores mailed to the Practical Nursing office. Please note that if you attended high school out of the country (United States) your transcript must be evaluated by an educational service agency that will send a report to the Practical Nursing office. The report should indicate what your education is equivalent to in the United States and if it is equal to a high school diploma in the United States.

Remember that acceptances to the Practical Nursing Program are considered by file completion date. Once we receive your Registration Form, $100.00 registration fee and an official United States High School transcript indicating graduation or the equivalent, you will be invited to an orientation session.
